Great start for Otago at champs

Otago has made a great start at the national provincial championships, but sterner tests await.

The Otago side won 4-1 in the morning and repeated the same score in the afternoon.

It beat Tasman in the morning at the Akarana course in Auckland and backed that up with a convincing victory over Aorangi.

Otago number one Sumin Kang won her match in the afternoon two up, coming back after being down early. Number two Yoonae Jeong won 4 and 3, Abby Crawford lost two up, Kathryn Baker won 3 and 1 while Becs Calder won 4 and 3.

Otago was in front for most matches right from the outset, and that gave the side some confidence.

Against Tasman in the morning, Otago was in front for the entire match. Calder won 2 and 1, Baker won one up, Crawford won 3 and 2 and Jeong won 4 and 3. Kang was the only player to go down, losing 3 and 1 to Aroha Minhinnick, although it did not matter with the team having already won the match.

The side will have a severe examination today, taking on North Harbour in the morning and Bay of Plenty in the afternoon.

North Harbour and Bay of Plenty both had 5-0 victories in their only games yesterday.
