It is a case of brotherly love for the Otago under-16 boys side at this week's national tournament in Dunedin.

The team, which opened with a 2-2 draw against Tauranga on Monday then lost 3-5 to Waikato yesterday, includes three pairs of brothers.

Gregor (14) and Duncan (16) Croudis, twins Aaron and Corey Farrell (16), and Jeremy (15) and Sam (16) Morris, are all wearing the blue and gold colours this week.

Coach Emma Barker said the brothers had a bit of telepathy on the field, and strung a few passes together, though there was sometimes confusion when the uniforms and sticks were handed out.

She said it was a financially tough for parents to support two children in the one team, but the team had been together for a couple of years and was performing well.

The side was down 1-5 at half-time yesterday and battled back well.

Gregor Croudis played fullback and his older brother played halfback, Aaron Farrell played on the left side while his twin was at fullback, and Jeremy Morris played as an inner, while his brother played in the forward line.

The tournament has its final round-robin games today before moving into post-section play.

Yesterday, Tauranga beat Wanganui 4-0, Canterbury beat Wairarapa 3-2, Counties-Manukau beat Manawatu 3-2, Bay of Plenty beat Hawkes Bay 3-2, Auckland beat Thames Valley 4-0, Marlborough-Nelson beat Harbour 4-3, and Nelson and Wellington drew 2-2.

In the girls under-16 tournament in Christchurch, Otago lost 1-4 to Auckland.

The final is scheduled to be played at 2pm on Saturday.

Otago needs a big win over Wanganui today to make it into the top section of finals.
