Thunder on receiving end of Stampede’s goal spree

The Stampede has continued its goal-scoring barrage.

It beat the Dunedin Thunder 10-2 on Saturday night, finishing with 18 goals across its two games against the side at the Dunedin Ice Stadium this weekend.

It also brought its season total to 41, having scored 23 over two games two weeks ago against the Canterbury Red Devils.

The Stampede took 63 shots to the Thunder’s 26, also finishing at a higher accuracy.

Matt Schneider and Colin McIntosh gave it a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Maxwell Macharg added to that early in the second, before three quick goals late in the period took the game away from the Thunder.

Paris Heyd finally got one back for the Thunder early in the third period.

He scored directly from a face-off to make it 6-1, before Macharg added another to restore the deficit.

Connor Harrison followed with another for the Stampede and while Heyd added a second, two more late goals helped the visitors reach double-digits.

The Thunder will have a chance to redeem itself this weekend, as it travels to Queenstown to play the Stampede in a return double-header.
