Australian television personality Matthew Johns has had to revisit allegations of sexual misconduct on a past rugby league tour of New Zealand.
Johns played for Cronulla seven years ago, when several players were investigated and cleared of Christchurch sexual assault allegations.
The woman at the centre of the allegations would speak publicly about them on the ABC's Four Corners programme on Monday, the Nine Network reported in Australia yesterday.
Johns was upset with the development.
"It took us a long time to get through it and it pains me that they have to go through it again," Johns, a presenter on The Footy Show, said yesterday.
The allegations centred on group sex with teammates and a teenage girl, The Australian reported today.
Johns also addressed the issue during last night's Footy Show.
"For me personally, it put my family through enormous anguish and embarrassment and for that I can't say sorry enough," Johns said.
"Police investigated the situation, the allegations and there were no charges laid. This has been a cause of major embarrassment for a lot of people." ABC TV previewed the Four Corners programme, with quotes from the woman, who was 19 at the time of the incident.
The woman, a staff member at the Racecourse Hotel in Riccarton, where the Sharks were staying, complained to police.
In the programme she talked of the effect the incident had on her life, describing it as degrading.
After interviewing all 30 Cronulla players and 12 officials who made the trip across the Tasman, police decided not to lay charges.
The players told police they had had sex with the teenager but maintained it was consensual.
