League: Linwood Keas claim Otago nines tourney

The Linwood Keas came away with top honours at the Otago nines tournament at Logan Park in Dunedin on Saturday.

The Keas won the eight-team men's division, beating fellow Christchurch team the Aranui Eagles in the final of the event, which featured 14 sides from Dunedin, Christchurch, Invercargill and Winton competing across three divisions for men's, women's and secondary school teams.

Both the Keas and the Eagles went into the final unbeaten, although Aranui drew 20-20 with the South Pacific Raiders.

There were positive signs for Dunedin teams University Rugby League Club and the Kia Toa Tigers, which made it to the semifinals before coming unstuck at the hands of their Christchurch opponents.

The Dunedin Women, a team made from the Alhambra women's rugby team, beat the Woolston Women in the final of the women's competition.

The four-team secondary school division was won by Rock Solid, comprising players from a variety of Dunedin secondary schools.

Rock Solid was unbeaten in pool play and edged the Linwood Juniors 18-16 in the final.
