The Southern Moto-X Series comes as close to Dunedin as the five-round championship gets this Sunday when it is hosted at Lee Stream by the Mosgiel District Motorcycle Club.

After events in Poolburn, Invercargill and Gore, the track built at club member Mike Scorgie's property offers a chance for motocross fans to catch six classes in action from 10am to 3.30pm. Each class has a practice then three rounds of racing.

Club president Mike Palmer said it was an ideal location and a great track for spectators, with open, natural terrain and a few man-made jumps.

"The logistics of having a motocross event there are easy.

You just organise it and go and do it. It's a bit further out of town but you don't get the neighbour issues."

The top club member to watch will be Brighton's Campbell King (17) who lies second, six points off the lead, in the senior pro class, Palmer said. Campbell has just placed ninth in the MX2 class at the Labour Weekend Motocross Extravaganza in Taupo, riding his old practice bike after his number one machine expired before the racing began, his father Trevor King said.

Gate prices are $5 adults, $2 children under 12 and $10 for a family of two adults and two or more children.
