The 19-year-old made a slow start to the national championships but some impressive performances during the business end of the competition helped her side reach the final.
Otago was beaten 63-59 by Canterbury in the final but Selby-Rickit had a fine game, landing 44 of her 51 attempts. Her performance in the semifinal against Wellington was simply outstanding, scoring 52 of her 55 shots at goal. It prompted coach Deb Tasi-Cordtz to announce her charge as the best shooter at the tournament.
Biased, yes, but her view was validated when Selby-Rickit was named in the tournament team alongside team-mates Shannon Francois and Louise Thayer.
The New Zealand under-21 shooter also picked up the most valuable player award for her efforts with the Otago under-21 side.
The coach of the year award was shared between Tasi-Cordtz and Otago under-21 coach Lauren Piebenga.
Piebenga led the under-21 side to a national title in July. A large portion of that squad then backed up to play for Otago in the national championships.
Netball Otago stalwart Georgie Salter's long service to the sport was recognised in a special presentation to the champion coach.
Salter has said she is retiring from representative netball and Netball Otago did not want to send her off without one last acknowledgment.
Salter's most notable achievements were in 1998, when shecoached both the Otago Rebels and the Otago national championship side to titles. But, perhaps, her greatest contribution has been to the players and coaches who have developed under her watch.
"This is really just further recognition from us to say thanks very much," Netball Otago regional manager Nicki Paterson said.
"She has told me she won't do representative netball next year but you never know, she might come back." Noeline Scott picked up the contribution to representative netball award for her work as assistant coach of the Lois Muir team and coach of the under-19 team.
"We have lots of people who give up their time and we just wanted to make special mention of Noeline for the work she has put in through the year," Paterson said.
