The ''Twin Towers'', Sophie and Abby Erwood, helped power South Otago High School to a 28-17 win over St Hilda's Collegiate School in the final of the Otago secondary schools championships at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin yesterday.

The identical twins worked their magic at either end of the court, with Sophie potting the goals and Abby doing her best to stop them.

It proved a combination too powerful for St Hilda's to overcome.

South Otago led 8-3 at the first break and continued to build on its lead in every quarter.

Sophie's accuracy and some telling intercepts from Abby helped snuff out a run by St Hilda's in the second period.

South Otago had too much size and talent not to prevail and coach Cheryl Blair said the title would be warmly received in Balclutha.

''I'm very proud,'' she said.

''It was a team effort. Everybody left their wee hearts out there.''

St Hilda's and former Otago coach Lana Morrison joked her side had played its final earlier in the tournament during the win over powerhouse Columbia College. She was thrilled her side had made the final and pleased the team had produced a gutsy display.

The Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic moved back into the top four of the ANZ Championship with a 60-50 win over the Northern Mystics in Auckland last night.

Goal shoot Irene van Dyk led the way for the Magic with 33 goals from 34 attempts while goal attack Ellen Halpenny was close behind with 27 from 30 attempts.
