In the top men’s singles, Rafferty McIntosh (Originals) was too strong for Balmacewen’s Gerard Farrell, winning 6-1, 6-2.
In the No 2 men’s singles, Phil Mirfin (Originals) then continued his resurgence as he won 6-4, 7-5 against Saul Moore.
Daniel Lund then continued the momentum as he beat Fraser Richardson 6-4, 7-5 to give the Andy Bay Originals a 3-0 lead.
Staring down defeat, Ella Richardson pulled one back for Balmacewen as she beat Heike Cebulla 6-4, 7-6(3).
Needing to win just one of the remaining two doubles matches, the experienced pair of Mirfin/Cebulla crafted their way to a 6-4, 6-2 win over F Richardson/E Richardson.
Balmacewen were able to claim an impressive consolation win as Farrell/Moore volleyed their way to a 6-3, 6-4 win over McIntosh/Lund.
The result gave Andy Bay Originals a 4-2 win overall.
In the other tie, Andy Bay Uni got an important victory against Taieri to keep their title hopes alive.
Jenna Bowied (Uni) reversed last weekend’s quadrangular result in the women’s singles match, as she beat Taieri’s Erin O’Neill 6-3, 6-3.
Marwan Samy (Uni) then backed this up with a ruthless 6-0, 6-0 win over the young Bilal Ahmad.
Danny Fridberg (Uni) then played some inspired tennis to beat his younger counterpart Eli Newall to win what was a thrilling match of the day 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
Andy Bay Uni then sealed the tie in their doubles match when Samy/Fridberg came back to beat Ahmad/Morrison 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Newall/O’Neill gave Taieri their sole win of the day, beating Elliott/Bowie in the mixed doubles 6-3, 6-3.
The final match between Jeff Elliotte and Connor Morrison is scheduled to be played later in the week.
However, this will not affect the result as Andy Bay Uni have an unassailable 4-1 overall lead.
With just two weeks left of the competition, Andy Bay Originals hold a healthy lead at the top of the table.
However, a strong finish from Andy Bay Uni would allow them to apply pressure to the competition leaders as they are only one tie behind.
