The Dodgers on Saturday delivered a result their late ex-coach would have been proud of.

After gathering with the rest of the softball community to honour Aran Bailey — who was killed in a car crash last week — the team delivered an emphatic 14-4 win over Ellis Park in the premier men’s grade.

Eight first-innings runs saw it take a commanding lead early and went on to win in three innings.

It was Ellis Park that took the first lead though, as Josh Hook and Mike Bunn came in to give their side a 2-0 lead in the first innings.

The Dodgers were able to limit the damage to that, before taking command in a landslide in their first innings at the plate.

Ellis Park  couldn’t add to its score in the second, but was able to hold the Dodgers to just one run, through Cameron Watts.

Teremoana Hamblin and Jacob Wedlock then closed the gap to 9-4 in the third, before the Dodgers added a further five runs to take the win.

In the later games, Cardinals showed their strength in beating Old Boys 17-3 and Ellis Park 10-4.

A dominant first innings had the Cardinals take a five-run lead, while holding their opponents scoreless.

However, Ellis Park fought back with four runs of its own, but the Cardinals were able to add five more in the third to take the win.

Against Old Boys, Mark Ahlfeld scored early, but his run was matched with one from Old Boys’ Dylan Brett.

In the second innings, the Cardinals exerted their dominance, racking up 11 runs to take control of the game.

Scott Flawn and Ben Foster added two for Old Boys in the third, but James Mathieson, William Hewett and Isaiah McLellan all answered for the Cardinals.

A further two to Ahlfeld and Ben Moody in the fourth finished off a dominant win.
