Gorrie led cycling specialist Alex Dodds (Mount Aspiring) after the 4km run, but Dodds came back strongly on the 16km cycling leg to lead into the final 2km run.
That was where Gorrie let fly and he won the title by 35sec in 48min 18sec. Dylan Mathieson (Tokomairiro) was third in 51min 24sec.
The senior girls race was also a battle between a runner and a cyclist but this time the cyclist triumphed, when Ameilia Kinnaird beat St Hilda's schoolmate Rebekah Greene by 56sec.
Greene was in top form and finished the first 4km run in third place overall behind Gorrie and Toby Batchelor (John McGlashan) who was in the senior boys team event.
But Kinnaird is an accomplished cyclist and finished 12th in her age-group at the world duathlon championships in Queensland. She led Greene by a kilometre after the cycling leg but Greene cut it back to 500m by the end of the race. Kinnaird won in 52min 47sec from Greene in 53min 43sec and Laura Mackay (St Hilda's) in 56min 01sec.
The senior boys team title was won by Aaron Blair and Brad Evans (Taieri College) in 44min 42sec, the intermediate boys by Hayden Symons and Bailey Koppert-Duggan (Taieri College) in 32min 33sec and the junior boys by Jay Bremer and Logan Jenkins (Taieri College) in 35min 30sec.
The senior girls team race was won by the Queen's team of Sophie Robb, Emma Sutherland and Maxine Shanks in 51min 63sec, the intermediate girls by Sian English and Sarah Wood (Columba) in 36min 52sec and the junior girls by Grace Carruthers and Georgie Woods (Columba) in 38min 18sec.
