April was a golden month for Dunedin mountain biker Erin Greene who won two New Zealand titles.
The big prize was the New Zealand 24-hour enduro championships in Wellington which she won comfortably from Kim Hammerhurst (Wellington). The win qualified her for the world championships in Canberra in October.
Greene (30), who works at R and R Sport in the summer and on the Coronet Peak ski patrol in winter, also won the title in 2009.
A serious accident on her bike that year stopped Greene from competing at the world championships.
She was out of all racing for eight months but had recovered in time to finish fifth at the world championships in Canberra in 2011.
A week after the 24-hour race, Greene won the New Zealand single-speed title at the Whakarewarewo Forest course near Rotorua.
A month earlier, Greene had competed in the eight-day Cape Epic distance race in South Africa with Kath Kelly, of Roxburgh. The highlight for them was to finish third on the longest-day leg. But the team had to withdraw from the race after six days when Kelly became ill.
There were 1200 riders and 600 teams competing in the event.
Greene intends to have a rest from serious training for the next month but will resume hard training in July in a three-month build-up to the world championships.
