The Rotorua petanque player became the first player to win three New Zealand titles in a row after securing his latest gong at the national singles championships in Dunedin.
He beat a strong field of 40 athletes — from Northland to Southland — who battled through winds and showers on Friday at the Dunedin City club.
And he was not done there.
Noel returned at the weekend to win the New Zealand doubles title with Herne Bay team-mate Allan Fletcher.
The doubles were played across two days with 40 teams involved, including the top-ranked South Island team of Robbie Sihamau and Gordon Dykes.
An exciting, ball-by-ball final finished with victory to the more experienced pair of Noel and Fletcher over Sihamau (Taieri) and Dykes (Herne Bay).
Debby Butler (Kapiti) and James Nicolson-Plank (Christchurch) were plate doubles champions, and Michael Rocks (Bay View) and Brian Westerbeek (Christchurch) won the bowl.
Dunedin City player Akaina Tuiono was runner-up in the singles.
The 20-year-old is studying at the University of Otago and only picked up petanque less than a year ago, but her success could result in higher honours.
The Mark Choveaux Trophy for top South Island team was won by Neville Bensdorp and Stephen Fitzgerald (Ashburton/Christchurch), and the Whanau Cup for the top family team was won by Graham and John Targett (Christchurch).
