Shooting: Gore High School shooters proving dominant

The Gore High School trap-shooting team has hit every target this year as it continues its dominance of the sport on the southern secondary school scene.

The team is winning competitions and individuals are also collecting wins.

It won the teams event at a recent Southland competition, which included schools from both Otago and Southland.

Coach Mark Paterson said the team of Michael Williams, Matt Paterson, Callum McLeod, Ryan Catto and David Gow had an excellent shoot.

Williams, in particular, shot superbly, continuing on from the four individual and two team firsts he has gained this season.

His form continued at the recent intercollegiate claybird competition when he and Gow combined to win the two-man team event..

Williams then fought a close battle with Nathan Orr to win the 20-target single event at the same tournament.

The school's number one team also won the Southland team trophy.

Paterson made special mention of Williams' contribution this season, saying he was a shooter of "very special ability" and with an exciting future ahead of him.
