
Competitors were frustrated by high winds and bad weather and will return to Cardrona today to decide the winners, after finals were postponed yesterday afternoon.
Cardrona was the only Wanaka skifield to open yesterday morning, as strong norwest winds and spring temperatures swept across the area.
Kleivdal, a silver medallist at the junior big air world championships in Italy in April, took control of the qualification rounds with some consistent riding despite the inclement conditions, and edged Hyne into second.
Junior world big air champion Sarka Pancochova, of the Czech Republic, qualified first in the women's slopestyle yesterday.
The finals have been re-scheduled to take place at Cardrona skifield from 1.30pm today.
- The FIS Australia New Zealand Continental Cup scheduled for Treble Cone today has been moved across town to Cardrona Alpine Resort and will instead take place tomorrow.
The two skifields will work together to host the event, with Treble Cone providing the personnel and equipment, and Cardrona the course.
The decision to shift the ANC Cup racing was made after rain, winds, and low cloud affected Treble Cone and closed the skifield yesterday.
About 140 competitors, many from international ski teams, are registered for the event.
A southerly change was forecast to bring cold temperatures and possibly snow to Wanaka overnight.
The traditional pre-event meeting of captains from the different competing international ski teams took place last night, at which they were informed of the decision to relocate the finals.
The slalom race is expected to start at Cardrona from 10am tomorrow, with the giant slalom scheduled for Saturday.
