Three Wanaka snowsports athletes have carded impressive results in their respective northern hemisphere campaigns as they build to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Disabled alpine ski racer Adam Hall (21), cross-country skier Katie Calder (28) and biathlon competitor Sarah Murphy (20) all performed well in their first events of the season to gain valuable International Ski Federation (FIS) points in their bid to qualify for Vancouver.

Hall won gold in both the slalom and giant slalom at the North American (NorAm) Cup at Copper Mountain, Colorado, while Calder, New Zealand's top cross-country skier, bagged a sub-100 FIS point performance in Goms, Switzerland, placing fifth in a Swiss Cup event to earn 96 FIS points.

Murphy, a junior world champion in the biathlon, which combines nordic skiing with shooting, qualified to represent New Zealand in June. The former Canadian hopes to wear the silver fern at Vancouver in her bid to become New Zealand's first Winter Olympian in biathlon.

Murphy qualified for the World Cup biathlon circuit last week after a race in Idre, Sweden. Contesting the World Cup events means Murphy will score FIS points.

Hall is one of the highest ranked disabled ski racers in the world and has now won all nine NorAm races he has entered.

Calder's racing results increase her chances of achieving an Olympic A qualifying standard.
