Paddy O'Neill rescued the Dunedin Indoor Bowls Stadium when he took charge seven years ago.

The interest has increased and the stadium green has become the busiest in Dunedin bowls.

His efforts were recognised at the Otago Sports Awards last night when he received the Services to Sport award at the annual dinner at the Dunedin Town Hall.

He became full-time manager of the stadium on a volunteer basis when it was struggling and over the last seven years has lifted the profile of the facility.

After more than 25 years involvement in the sport, O'Neill stepped up to take on the role at a time when the stadium was in difficulty and its future was by no means guaranteed.

O'Neill has brought the stadium to a stable position, and he continues to be a hands-on manager ensuring that success will prosper long after he finally decides to retire.

Prominent Dunedin company, Animation Research, won the Innovation in Sport award for its world-leading work in sports broadcasting technology.

The company has set the standards in innovative thinking with its ground-breaking work in covering yachting, cricket, golf, aero sports and motorsport.

The award was accepted by Stu Smith and Paul Sharp, two of the technical wizards who developed these technologies.
