There will be a strong southern influence to the Ice Blacks when they finally get to play again next year.
New Zealand has named its men’s team for 2023.
The Ice Blacks will compete in the division two (group B) world championships in Istanbul from April 17 to 23.
Three Dunedin Thunder players and 10 Southern Stampede players have made the squad.
The Thunder’s leading scorer, Dylan Devlin, and team-mate Noah Gregory have been named in the group of 26 forwards.
Dunedin defenceman and captain Ben Harford is among the 17 men at the back.
The Stampede, which leads the New Zealand Ice Hockey League but has a nervous wait this weekend to see if it will be overtaken and lose home-ice advantage, predictably supplies a good chunk of the squad.
Max Macharg, who leads the NZIHL in goals with 11 in 16 games, joins brother Harrison, Lachlan Frear, Connor Harrison and Ryan Strayer in the forwards.
Stampede defencemen Stef Amston, Callum Burns and Mitchell Frear are selected, while the Queenstowners supply two of the five goaltending options in Joel Hasselman and Aston Brookes.
