Swimming: Otago competitors secure 19 medals

Otago swimmers accounted for 19 medals at the Auckland age-group championships at the weekend.

Andrew Trembath, Nic Pryde, Caitlin Deans, Mila Jojic and Cecilia Crooks travelled to Auckland for the event.

Deans was the big winner, snaring six golds and a bronze medal for her efforts in the girls 16 years section.

She won the 200m and 400m individual medley, 100m butterfly and 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle.

Her third-placed finish was in the 50m freestyle.

Her winning time in the 400m freestyle (4min 24.78sec) qualifies her for Australian age-group championships next year.

Crooks also returned to Dunedin with a healthy medal haul.

Competing in the girls 14 years section, she won gold in the 200m and 400m freestyle, silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze in the 400m individual medley and 100m freestyle.

Pryde capped off the year by winning gold in the boys 16 years 200m butterfly, silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle.

Andrew Trembath, who is training at the High Performance Sport New Zealand Centre in Auckland, was impressive in his favoured backstroke discipline, winning gold in the boys 17 and over 100m and 200m.

Jojic won bronze in the girls 14 years 400m freestyle.

Next up is the four-day long Otago 13 and over championships at Moana Pool from January 20.
