Tyron Pelasio just likes playing sport.

Tyron, a year 11 pupil at Kaikorai Valley College, is a star on the touch field, the softball diamond and the rugby paddock.

He also plays volleyball when time allows.

Tyron has always played sport, encouraged by his mother Toni, and started with T-ball at a young age.

He has since graduated to softball, and plays in the outfield for the Ellis Park senior side on Saturday afternoons. He first played senior softball last year, aged 14.

He still plays junior grade softball for Ellis Park, where he is either a pitcher or first base.

He was picked for the Otago under-17 softball team.

Summer is a busy time for Tyron, as he also played touch.

When aged 14, he was picked for the Kaikorai Valley College senior mixed side which went to the national championship in Palmerston North.

The side finished 13th in a highly competitive grade.

Coach Damian Burdon said Tyron played well above himself at the tournament, despite facing players much older than himself.

Burdon said Tyron worked hard at his game and was extremely motivated.

Tyron said he enjoyed the speed of touch.

His skill at the game saw him selected for a New Zealand junior elite training camp last year in Rotorua.

This year, he has been picked for the South Island under-15 boy's touch team.

In winter, Tyron played as loose forward in the school's rugby team. He was picked for the Otago under-14 team last year.

He intends to play for the school's under-16 team this year. The school only has a first XV when it plays inter-school matches.

Tyron said he had no preference for any sport, but just wanted to have fun.

He also plays volleyball at school, and is the school's athletics champion for his age group.
