Racing: Quick return for pair after Millicent wins

Millicent, who was bought on Friday night by Christchurch owners Ian Dobson and Tony Faulks, made an immediate return when the 2yr-old trotting filly won at Waterlea yesterday.

Millicent was transferred to Greendale trainer Bruce Hutton before her win yesterday.

"My partner, Vicki, bought tickets for Lotto on Friday night and we were speculating that if we won we would like to buy Millicent when Ian Dobson phoned and asked me to train the filly," Hutton said.

Dobson has Hu Keas and Got A Beauty in the Hutton stable.

Hu Keas has won two races as a trotter. Got A Beauty (Gotta Go Cullen-Beauty Bee colt) was the top-priced lot at $100,000 at the premier yearling sale in February.

Millicent finished fourth to Habibti, Sheemon and Royal Aspirations at her first of two starts for trainers Colin and Julie De Filippi.

She also had a fourth at the Nelson meeting the previous Sunday for Spring Creek trainer Graham Neill, who shared the ownership with breeder and partner Honora Undrill.

Millicent is by Monkey Bones, who has also been represented by another 2yr-old trotting winner from his first crop, Bonechip.

Monkey Bones, who stood at Wai Eyre Farm, Kaiapoi, was not advertised for service last spring when he served three mares.

The son of Andover Hall has a stifle problem and he is under veterinary treatment.

He left six foals after covering 11 mares the previous season. Monkey Bones trotted a mile in 1.57.6 on a 1000m track as a 2yr-old when winning in the United States.

Millicent is the second foal of Black Onyx, who is also the dam of Rarangi Jewel, a winner yesterday for Neill. Rarangi Jewel has won three races for breeders George and Isabel Illingworth, of Blenheim. Black Onyx (by Gee Whiz) won three races for the Illingworths, two when trained by Neill and another for Ross Rennie.

Samuel James led for most of the way to win the Marlborough Winter Cup yesterday. He is trained by Robert Dunn and was driven by John Dunn. They combined to win the Marlborough Winter Cup with Corka Dream in 2009.

Warder continued his good trial form with a win at Oamaru on Saturday.

Warder, who has not raced since December 4, won a trial at Oamaru on May 30.
