Racing: Starsky's Dream bright

A racing education will continue for impressive debut winner Starsky's Dream when he lines up at Gore today.

The Graeme Anderson-trained 3yr-old ran away from his rivals on debut at Forbury Park last month, and Anderson said the Gore assignment was one of few options available for the Mach Three gelding at this time of year.

''I think he's quite a good horse but there's not a heck of a lot coming up for him - they're all 4yr-old and older races,'' Anderson said.

''So that's why we're taking him to Gore, otherwise you go back to the trials and you've got a two-horse field again.

Anderson said the lightly framed gelding did not put in too many kilometres in work between races, but he was pleased with what he had seen since the win on November 21.

''He's not a big-framed horse so we don't do a lot with him. He's really, really bright.

Starsky's Dream won from barrier 8 at Forbury Park courtesy of a tidy drive by Dexter Dunn and Anderson will leave it up to the master reinsman to decide the game plan when the mobile arms fold away at the 2200m mark.

''He's well capable of leading if I wanted him to because he did at the trials the other day, but it depends on what Dex wants to do. If they start to lead inside him, he can go back and learn a little bit.''

Anderson will take Shard N Awe to Gore tomorrow as well, where she faces the standing start tapes for the first time in a 4yr-old c1 2200m pace.

''Her first standing start is the only little thing [of concern] but it looks a race that she could win if things went her way.

''She's reasonably sensible so we'll put some shorteners on her, and hopefully she'll be right.

The news on Anderson's two established stars, King Kenny and Ballindooley, is mixed.

''King Kenny is starting to do some long, solid pace work now and Ballindooley has been sent back to his owner to recover from his injury.

''He got an infection where he kicked the fence post, so it'll be [a case of] a bit of time and patience.''

King Kenny will keep working towards a goal of starting in early 2014.

''He's just getting a bit hard to place because he's assessed at c5, but he'll be back in the New Year, everything going to plan which, at the moment, everything is.''
