Racing: Third time lucky for grinning Cup winners

The Australian owners of Americain are still pinching themselves a day after winning the Melbourne Cup.

Melbourne caravan tycoon Gerry Ryan and his friend Kevin Bamford bought Americain for $US225,000 in February.

"This is the third horse we've had and third time lucky," Ryan said.

Bamford's wife, Colleen, said the Cup win was still sinking in.

"We're still pinching ourselves. It's still a bit surreal," she said.

Jockey Gerald Mosse had been due to fly to his Hong Kong base on Tuesday night but postponed his departure so he could continue to soak up the Melbourne Cup atmosphere.

"I think I don't need to fly back home. I'll fly by myself," he said.
