A hat trick of goals to Tony Moore guided the Meadowbank Reserves to a 3-2 win over Roncalli College in their football match in Timaru on Saturday.
Roncalli, through a brace of goals by Jamie Smith, led 2-1 at halftime but Moore found the back of the net twice in the second half. St Kevin's College upset Thistle B, the top team in section B, with a 1-0 win. It was 0-0 at halftime but John Easton gave St Kevin's the winning goal in the second half.
Hockey
Tainui continued its up-and-down season when it beat Tinwald 3-0 in Timaru on Saturday. Tainui led 1-0 at halftime but in the second half Shaun Cunningham got his second and Craig McLea added the third.
Waitaki Boys' first X1 beat Timaru Boys' 3rd X1 6-2, while in local hockey, Waitaki Boys' 2nd X1 beat Pirata Black 3-2, with Jayden Caldwell, Lucas Quennell and Charlie Bower scoring for the school side. An Olivia Pope goal gave St Kevin's Girls 1st X1 a 1-0 win over Pirata Blue.
Indoor bowls
Sue Jones and John Brice took the Grant Cup trophy for mixed pairs with a 7-2 win in the final over Garth McKenzie and Lyn Porter. North Otago retained the Moss Rosebowl in a triangular tournament on Saturday in Oamaru. North Otago finished with 256 points ahead of Eastern Districts(183) and Upper Waitaki (180).
Netball
All netball was cancelled late on Saturday morning after heavy rain fell early in the day.
CENTRAL OTAGO

Dunstan High School A pushed Molyneux A all the way in their latest encounter in the Central Otago netball competition.
Despite the pressure put on by the students, an experienced Molyneux A, led by defence Elaisa Chapman, got the win 30-24.
Shoots Sophie Johns and Rosie Coutts had excellent games for Dunstan but in the end their side turned over far too much possession.
The second match in the premier grade saw Roxburgh Kilties hammer Cromwell College A 32-18. It was bittersweet for Roxburgh, however, as goal attack Trudie Marsh was assisted from the court with a knee injury late in the match.

The 2011 Southern Region rugby player of the year awards will be held on Friday at the Toko clubrooms in Milton, starting at 7.30pm.
The guest speaker will be former Otago and All Black No8 Paul Miller, who is now the Pirates premier coach in Dunedin.
The nominees cover 10 sections, from premier right down to under-14.
In the premier grade, eight nominations have been received: Simon Scott (Toko), Simon Grant (Clutha), Chris Thomson (Crescent), Hayden Tapp (Clinton), Sam Wyber (Lawrence), Craig Stanaway (Heriot), Maurice Tairua (Clutha Valley) and Rhys Evans (Owaka). Other nominations are.-
