After being blitzed in the first half, North Otago showed more fortitude after the break and held Auckland for the first 15 minutes of the second period before the blue and white scoring machine kicked into gear again.
Two tries then went begging as North Otago players twice spilled the ball on the line as they tried to reduce the winning margin.
Earlier, memories of the fearful 139-5 hiding dished out by the Aucklanders in 1993 must have been flooding back to the 3500-strong crowd at Whitestone Contracting Stadium in Oamaru with Auckland scoring virtually at will in the first 20 minutes.
It was 35-0 after 13 minutes, and 49-0 after 21 minutes with Auckland's scoring going up in multiples of seven.
North Otago then managed to stem the tide for a short period, and second five-eighth Nathan Cunningham notched a penalty in the 25th minute to bring the score back to 49-3.
After that, however, the floodgates opened again and Auckland went to the break leading 73-3, with 10 converted tries and a drop-goal.
