They are going to look like the 1991 Otago team - one hopes they can play like it.

As part of the heritage theme the Otago union is using for this Saturday's game against Tasman at Forsyth Barr Stadium, the Otago team will wear playing uniforms similar to those worn by the Otago team in 1991.

The Otago team in that year was the first side from the province to win the national provincial championship.

Now, 25 years on, the union is celebrating that competition victory and the Otago side will wear the jerseys, shorts and socks to mark the occasion, along with a luncheon before the game.

About a dozen of the players from the 1991 team will be attending the luncheon.

There will be 30 jerseys produced for the day and three of them will be auctioned off at the luncheon.

The remaining jerseys will be auctioned off online after the game. They will not be available to be bought through retail outlets and the 30 jerseys produced for Saturday's game will be the only jerseys available.

All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys will go to the Otago Medical Research Foundation, which is the Otago Rugby Football Union's official charity.

There will be a curtain-raiser to the match on Saturday with the Heartland Championship coming to the stadium.

North Otago will take on Horowhenua-Kapiti - both teams have one win and one loss.
