The Southland premier grade resumes this Saturday after taking last week off for the opening day of duck-shooting.

Pirates Old Boys are taking on Woodlands in the feature game at Surrey Park.

Both teams have won two games and both have lost to the Eastern Northern Barbarians.

Pirates Old Boys have the more experienced team and will start the favourites on their home turf.

Former Southland Stag loose forward Matt James is the POB head coach this year and will be keeping an eye out for Woodlands loose forward Sloane Lankshear.

Lankshear has migrated from the North Island and has been one of the competition’s standout players during the first three rounds.

Star and Marist are playing at Waverly Park on Saturday. Both sides have beaten the struggling Invercargill Blues team and also competed well against the heavyweights.

Star has the better formline after comfortably beating Blues in their last match and only losing 26-24 to Woodlands the week prior.

Star’s Nate Corbett and Marist’s Tiam Toufan are two young men who have intentions of playing professional rugby in the near future.

Corbett and Toufan have been impressive at centre and fullback for their clubs during the early rounds.

The winless Invercargill Blues team will host the unbeaten Eastern Northern Barbarians at Appleby.

The forecast wet weather might slow the game down but the Barbarians forward pack has shown that they have no problem with holding possession and rolling towards the line.
