Apparently, the all-conquering Old Boys are not finding it any easier than any other club this season.

It is hard to believe when you take a quick look at the results. The club is undefeated after eight games and seemingly going along nice and smoothly.

Halfback Inoke Naufahu just brought up 100 points in the 38-24 win against Kurow on the weekend, adding further weight to the suggestion the club is cruising through the season.

But the 23-year-old said Old Boys was battling as well.

"At the moment it is brotherhood which is getting us through," he said.

"We are struggling like every other team in terms of numbers at training. We had about 10 on Tuesday which makes it hard.

"But when it comes to game time, the coach looks everyone in the eye and gets us to play for one another."

Naufahu has played in three positions since the start of the season. He fills in where needed week to week.

He is most comfortable at halfback and can play first five-eighth as well. But he has played at fullback as well and is not sure where he will pop up on Saturday.

Naufahu played for North Otago two years ago but missed last season with a knee injury he picked up during a pre-season club game.

He could have had an operation and got back on the field sooner. But it would have meant taking two months off work and the apprentice carpenter could not afford to take the time off.

His girlfriend was also in Christchurch, so he wanted his weekends free to visit her.

But this season everything is coming together. His knee is 100%, his girlfriend has moved south to Oamaru and he is back playing some sizzling rugby.

A former Waitaki Boys' High School pupil, he moved to Oamaru from Tonga for his education and hopes to complete his apprenticeship by the time the representative season gets under way.

"I'm glad I took a year off last year. I'm still interested in playing for North Otago but at the moment my focus is on my apprenticeship.

"Hopefully, I'll be qualified before the North Otago season starts so I can focus on rugby.

"That is what played on my mind last year. I had three things going on and I had to drop something so I dropped rugby.

"I had to divide my weekends between rugby and Christchurch but now she has moved down to Oamaru."

A happy Naufahu is bad news for Maheno which has the task of dealing the team its first loss this season when the sides meet tomorrow.
