Rugby: Students run riot over Zingari

University A came back to its best form when it scored 11 tries to thump Zingari-Richmond at the University Oval.

Midfield back Guy Schwikkard was in top form and broke the defence at will and scored three tries.

He made some brilliant breaks through a weak defence and was the star in a student backline that ran with purpose.

Matt Faddes added spark when he counterattacked from the back to score two tries and Tom Halse dictated play from first five-eighth.

Halse's long passes created space for his outsides and his kicking was perfectly crafted with a mixture of up-and-unders, cross kicks to his wings and accurate line kicks.

Key players in the student pack that dominated the set pieces were loose forwards Paul Grant and Aaron Scott, lock Rob Verbarkel, hooker Sam Sturgesss and prop Liam McGrath.

No 8 Chris Bell and flanker Kris Miller worked hard in the beaten Zingari pack.

- University A 71 (Guy Schwikkard 3, Matt Faddes 2, Anton Hones, Paul Grant, Rob Verbarkel, Liam McGrath, Brenton Thompson, Stephen Fenemore tries; Tom Halse 8 con), Zingari-Richmond 0. Halftime: University A 31-0. Referee: Gareth Reed.
