Back later. Gone for a scan.

Otago may as well have hung that sign out on the office door yesterday.

The fallout following the 32-26 loss to Wellington on Sunday was not limited to a couple of barbs in the newspaper the next day.

The injury list has swollen.

Putting together a competitive side for the next fixture against Waikato will be a challenge.

Rising star Thomas Umaga-Jensen limped off a couple of minutes into the Wellington game.

The second five strained his hamstring and was getting a scan yesterday. It is unclear how long he will be out.

His replacement, Jack Leslie, also left the field. He injured his shoulder in the final quarter of the match and was getting a scan yesterday. The initial assessment was a couple of weeks on the sidelines.

The young man was on debut and following in the footsteps of his father, John Leslie, who played 123 games for Otago from 1991 to 1998.

Jack Leslie played first five all season for Southern and led the Magpies in their surprise win over Taieri in the final of the Dunedin premier grade.

Having to fill in at second five was a big ask, particularly when he was not even named on the bench initially.

Leslie took the spot vacated by loose forward Sam Fischli, who was forced to pull out with a back niggle.

Fischli is expected to be available for selection against Waikato this weekend.

Lock Fabian Holland is another likely returnee.

He has missed the last two games after sustaining a head knock at training ahead of the Bay of Plenty game. He does not have concussion symptoms, but because he was knocked out, he had to stand down for 12 days according World Rugby protocol.

Second five Ray Nu’u, who was in fine touch before he injured his knee during the 35-17 loss to Auckland, has another two or three weeks to run on his rehabilitation programme.

Hooker Ricky Jackson (Achilles), winger Jona Nareki (ankle) and halfback Nathan Hastie (shoulder) are all out for the season.
