First five-eighth Peter Breen and No 8 Graeme Cashmore were the heroes for Alhambra-Union in their upset 36-14 win over Pirates in Dunedin premier club rugby at the North Ground today.

Breen was on target with his boot and his 26 points included a try, five penalties and three conversions.

His 100% strike rate continued. In his last three games he has put his 21 kicks at goal through the posts.

Cashmore was aggressive with the ball in hand and his work in the lineout gave the Alhambra-Union backline plenty of ball.

The other big upset was at Watson Park when Green Island downed Harbour 37-30 to get their second win of the season.

Prop Will Henry and flanker Luke Schouler had strong games when Dunedin beat Varsity A 30-26 at Kettle Park. Fullback Liam Edwards kicked 10 points.

Strong running No 8 Sam Crompton scored two of Southern's nine tries when Zingari-Richmond was beaten 63-7 at Bathgate Park.

Former All Black Brad Thorn impressed with his strong work in the tight in his debut game for Taieri at Peter Johnstone Park.

A large crowd came along to watch Thorn in action.

Southern 36, Zingari-Richmond 7; Taieri 43, Kaikorai 18; Dunedin 30, University A 26; Alhambra-Union 36, Pirates 14; Green Island 37, Harbour 30.
