The Otago Daily Times has kept detailed records of club rugby since 1976 and this was the highest winning margin in a final.
University A had big wins in 1992 (44-3 v Harbour) and 1993 (51-8 v Southern).
''I didn't expect that scoreline,'' Taieri captain Charlie O'Connell said.
''In last three years, there has been a maximum of three points between the teams in each final.
''The loss last year made us appreciate what it is like to win. It built resilience and was definitely an advantage for us today.''
Goal-kicker Hayden Parker returned from the Highlanders in time to play in the club final and kicked 24 points.
''I always enjoy coming back and playing for the Taieri boys,'' Parker said.
''It was an awesome result today. It's the best performance I've been part of since being with Taieri. It was awesome to pull it out in a final.''
Parker recalled the tense final two years ago, when he kicked a last-minute penalty goal to give Taieri a 24-22 win over Dunedin.
''I was thinking about that this morning and was praying that it wouldn't come down to something like that. I was happy.''
Taieri coach Jason Macdonald was full of emotion after the game.
''A performance like that in finals rugby is what got the emotions flowing for me,'' Macdonald said.
''We asked the boys to keep building right to the end of 80 minutes and that is what they did. I couldn't be a more proud coach.''
Macdonald praised the efforts of his assistant coach, Murray Roulston.
''Murray has bought a level of intensity to the team. His wealth of experience as a coach has been massive for me and the team,'' Macdonald said.
''The analysis he puts in and the planning was a phenomenal effort. Being able to pick his brains is amazing for a young and aspiring coach.''
Macdonald said the success of the team over the past four years in winning three banners was a product of the Taieri environment.
''It's second to none from the committee, the supporters and people from plains in general,'' he said.
''The coaches and management team appreciate everything the supporters do for us week in and week out.''
