Former Highlanders and Otago winger Lucky Mulipola has cut a deal to lift his suspension early so he can play this weekend.

Mulipola has been named in Tasman's reserves for its game against Manawatu in Nelson tomorrow night.

He was supposed to be sidelined this weekend as he is serving a New Zealand Rugby Union suspension until Monday.

Mulipola (26) was suspended for four weeks, until September 7, as a result of misconduct arising from his involvement in an alleged physical altercation in Dunedin on May 22.

He was censured for misleading the Highlanders and the NZRU about his involvement in the alleged assault.

Mulipola has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault with intent to injure and a trial date has yet to be set.

His bail conditions have been changed in accord with his move north.

Otago agreed this week to loan Mulipola to Tasman, his former province, for the rest of the season.

NZRU professional manager Neil Sorenson said Mulipola's suspension was negotiable pending transfer opportunities.

Both the NZRU and Otago were happy with the arrangement, Sorenson said.

Otago Rugby Football Union chief executive Richard Reid said he had no issues with Mulipola's suspension being reduced.

"I'm reasonably relaxed about it. I think Lucky has learned his lesson."
