Rugby: Eight-try Kaikorai dispatch Pirates

First five-eighth Cam Rutherford scored 20 points and played a key role in Kaikorai's eight-try win against Pirates at Bishopscourt.

Rutherford spearheaded the attack that rattled Pirates in the second spell when Kaikorai scored 36 points and six tries.

Other key players in the Kaikorai backline were midfielders Logan Moore and Jayden Spence, who made deep inroads into Pirates territory. They both scored two tries.

The best player in the Kaikorai pack was prop Jim Stevenson, with his strong scrummaging and driving play.

Lock Blair Tweed dominated the lineout and loose forwards Adam Hill and Mitch Clarke controlled the breakdown and did not give the Pirates backline any latitude.

The best Pirates players were the inside back combination of Steven Bruce and Louis Tili, and No 8 Solomon T-Pole.

Kaikorai 50 (Logan Moore 2, Jayden Spence 2, Cam Rutherford 2, Tony Ensor, Nathan Hull tries; Rutherford 5 con),  Pirates 10 (Nadu Kuwata try; Louis Tili con, pen).  Halftime: Kaikorai 14-10.
