Rugby: Harbour run rampant over Kaikorai

It was blitzkrieg rugby from the start when Harbour scored nine tries to beat Kaikorai at Watson Park.

It was a demolition job by a fired-up Harbour pack that took control. Hooker Pete Mirrielees led the charge by scoring two tries. Defence was nonexistent when he ran 30m for one of his tries.

Harbour scored four tries in the first 20 minutes to lead 29-0. The game was effectively over and it was just a matter of how many points the home team would accumulate.

The pack was unstoppable as it drove upfield with prop Mike Macdonald aggressive with his driving runs.

Lock Sam Ready dominated the lineout and flanker Eben Joubert kept the momentum going and made sure that Harbour controlled the breakdown.

The backline fed off Kaikorai mistakes and spread the ball wide under the direction of halfback Johnny Legg with his snappy passing and probing runs down the short side.

Powerful midfield back George Folau was dangerous inside the 22m and scored three tries. He ran 80m for one of his tries.

Kaikorai flanker Adam Hill tried to stem the flow but he had an impossible task. The best Kaikorai backs were first five-eighth Matt Te Tana and centre Jayden Spence.

Harbour 56 (George Folau 3, Pete Mirrielees 2, Wayne Gibson, Lex Kaleca, Sam Ready, Scott Fuglistaller tries; Ollie Cuthill 4 con, pen), Kaikorai 5 (Bryce Morgan try). Halftime: 36-0.
