Rugby: OBHS too strong for John McGlashan

Southland Boys High School put their foot on the accelerator with a commanding 81-7 win over South Otago High School at Invercargill today.

Southland Boys is one of the four unbeaten teams after four rounds of the Highlanders First XV competition.

The other unbeaten teams are Kings that beat Waitaki Boys 25-10 in the midweek game, Otago Boys and Gore High School.

The talented Otago Boys backline had too much speed and guile and paved the way for a 39-5 win over John McGlashan College.

Speedy left wing Tim Lawrence scored two tries for Otago Boys and fullback Liam Edwards kicked conversions for three of the six tries and added a penalty goal.

Gore scored 10 tries when it beat Kavanagh College 64-0 with Aaron Shirley scoring two tries.

There are two big games next week with unbeaten Kings playing Gore and Otago Boys facing Southland Boys. Both games are at Dunedin.

Otago Boys 39, John McGlashan 5; Gore HS 64, Kavanagh College 0; Southland Boys 81, South Otago 7; St Kevin's 14, Verdon College 5; Dunstan 12, Central Southland College 0; Kings 25, Waitaki Boys 10.
