Rugby: Top three Dunedin club teams lose

It was a day of upsets with the three top teams beaten in Dunedin premier club rugby today.

Centre Wayne Gibson scored three tries when bottom placed Harbour beat third placed Alhambra-Union 38-25.

A last minute drop goal by first five-eighth Stephen Fenemor gave University A an upset 31-30 win over competition leaders Taieri.

The students started with a blast and scored three early tries to lead 22-3 after 20 minutes. Taieri clawed their way back into the game and took the lead 30-28 with three minutes left before University won the game with the last play of the game.

Fullback Liam Edwards scored 25 points to help Dunedin regain the Larry Salmon Memorial Trophy when Pirates was beaten 55-27. He scored two tries and kicked six conversions and a penalty goal.

A performance straight off the top shelf from the Green Island forward pack set up a memorable 28-13 win over second placed Southern and helped Green Island lift the Speight's Challenge Shield.

Fullback Tony Ensor scored two of Kaikorai's six tries when Zingari-Richmond was beaten 41-24.
