Highlanders first five-eighth Colin Slade will put his silky skills to the test in a charity basketball and netball match at the Edgar Centre on Sunday.

The game is being organised by Basketball Otago and Netball Otago to raise funds for the Christchurch earthquake appeal.

Slade is one of five Highlanders who have signed up.

He will be joined in the Black team by halfback Aaron Smith and lock Joe Tuineau.

No 8 Nasi Manu and winger James Paterson will suit up for the Red team.

Otago prop Kees Meeuws, former Highlanders lock Brendon Timmins and Otago co-coach Andy Hunter will also give the round-ball code a crack.

Most of the basketball talent is hidden in the Red team with Otago Nuggets Tom Rowe, Sam King and James Ross and Otago Goldrush forward Danielle Calnan rounding out a useful roster.

The Black team will look to basketball and cricket international Suzie Bates to make a lot of play.

The game gets under way at the Edgar Centre at 5pm.

Entry is a donation to the Red Cross.
