A 43-year-old man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a woman last night in Christchurch.
Police launched a homicide investigation after the woman died late on Wednesday night in the vicinity of the Countdown car park, off Hawke St, in New Brighton.
The victim, a woman in her 40s, was unresponsive when emergency services arrived, and died while being transported to hospital.
The man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Thursday afternoon, a police spokesperson said.

The man was taken into custody at the scene and was helping police with their inquiries.
A scene examination is being undertaken today around the Countdown carpark.
