Charges laid after attempted car-jacking

Four people were taken into custody after an attempted car-jacking in Christchurch on Tuesday night.

Senior Sergeant Kerry Joyce said police took three youths and a 22-year-old man into custody after they allegedly tried to steal a person's vehicle on the Esplanade, Sumner, about 10.30pm.

Joyce said the victim was approached then allegedly threatened with a weapon.

"The offenders left the scene prior to police arrival, however, were located a short time later and taken into custody.

"Thankfully, the victim is uninjured, however, is understandably shaken by the incident."

Two of the youths involved were referred to Youth Aid.

The other youth and 22-year-old man were due to appear in the Christchurch Youth Court on May 28, charged with demanding to steal and being disguised for burglary.
