A contractor painted 'no stopping' lines outside a North New Brighton dairy by mistake.

The lines, along the west side of Keyes Rd near the Keyes/Bowhill Rds roundabout, have caused the owner of the Skinny Keyes Rd dairy a lot of grief, with delivery drivers unable to stop there.

The lines will now be painted out after the concerned dairy owner went to the contractor and Coastal-Burwood Community Board chairman Kelly Barber to try and rectify the mistake.

The contractor had assumed the lines had been previously approved and installed but not reinstated after a recent road reseal.

The board was “unhappy” with the error.

Barber said he was frustrated the lines were painted without the contractor coming before the board previously.

He also noted this wasn’t the first time contractors had gone ahead with a project without consulting the board first.

Barber said he had spoken to the dairy owner, who used the space to have their goods delivered to their store, but because of the no stopping lines this wasn’t possible.

The dairy owner suggested putting in time-restricted parking instead, but the contractor felt the lines were warranted and during the meeting said the delivery truck could go onto the property to deliver goods.

However, Barber said this wasn’t possible as the truck would have to reverse out of the property onto the road by the roundabout, which wasn’t safe.

The board made a unanimous decision to remove the no stopping lines, which will be done by Christchurch City Council contractors.
