Police hunt for vehicle involved in early morning pursuit

Police are looking for the registered owner of a vehicle involved in a pursuit in Christchurch in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers abandoned the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle about midnight on Highsted Rd in Casebrook, a police spokeswoman said.

Police signalled to the vehicle to stop so officers could check why the occupants were out during the Covid-19 lockdown.

However, the driver took off and was pursued “for a matter of seconds” before police lost sight of the car.

“Officers [continued] looking for the car for a while after that.

"Police will be looking to speak to the registered owner of the car.”
