Police speak to youths in relation to fire

Two youths have been spoken to by police in relation to a suspicious scrub fire at Bottle Lake Forest Park in Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to the blaze near Lima Rd about 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Ten fire crews and a helicopter were needed to put the blaze out.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Brent Dunn said firefighters "surrounded and contained" the fire within about an hour.

The park is predominantly a pine plantation which runs alongside the coast in the north-east of the city and offers a myriad of tracks for mountain-biking, horse-riding, and walking.
