Sumner residents have experienced a spate of break-ins, with about half a dozen reports of vehicles being rifled through and items stolen in just one night.

A police spokeswoman said they received two reports of cars being tampered with in the neighbourhood overnight last Sunday.

One person “found their car with the bonnet open and the battery removed” on Denman St.

Another discovered a window smashed “with some items taken from inside” on Ocean View Tce, the spokeswoman said.

Social media users have reported additional incidents from the same night, including break-ins on Whitfield St, Arnold St, Menzies St and Campbell St.

Those affected say car boots, doors and bonnets were left open, with glove boxes and centre consoles also searched.

“We encourage anyone who has been the victim of similar offending and hasn’t yet reported it to police to do so via 105,” the spokeswoman said.

Police also said a car which had been stolen from Waltham on Sunday was later found abandoned on Sumner’s St Leonards Sq the following day.
