Chris O’Sullivan with her almost complete re-upholstered piano stool top.

Searching for an item to tackle as an upholstery project on Monday, Chris O’Sullivan stumbled across a battered piano stool in the Mount Hutt College music room.

In need of some tender loving care, Mrs O’Sullivan dug out some quality, classical fabric bought in Ireland 20 years previously and set about recovering the seat.

The project was tackled at the Methven Summer School and on the second day of a two day workshop hosted by upholstery professional Brendan Patrick.

Mrs O’Sullivan said she had completed a dining chair re-upholstery project quicker than expected, and with time on her hands, had discovered the piano stool in a nearby room.

"I have done upholstery courses before and really enjoy getting hands-on.

"I love upcycling and recycling and I’m getting better at it."

Her dining chair project used material bought locally and recently, although she bought the chair itself for five shillings in 1963.
