Mid Canterbury Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders has teamed up with Ashburton Creative Fibre to offer members of the public a chance to see what they can do with wool.

Event co-organiser Verna Woods said the group was excited about the open day in Ashburton on Saturday.

‘‘Visitors can come an talk to sheep breeders and members of the creative fibre group about turning fleeces into material for use in spinning, weaving, knitting and crocheting.

‘‘There is a an opportunity to try some of the crafts like weaving,’’ Woods said.

There will be fleeces for sale in 1kg lots as well as a full fleece.

Woods said the day is about showing people the process a fleece goes through from being shorn and then washed, carded, spun or felted and being turned into yarn for creating other objects, she said.

Items made by members of the groups as well as fleeces will be on display.
