The managing director of Artisan by Rangiora Bakery also wants to encourage people to become a “little bit greener”, and not so reliant on their cars.
To help them get out of their cars and into the fresh air, he has installed a 10-stand e-bike secure docking station outside his Rangiora bakery and cafe at a cost of $30,000.
The station locks, docks and keeps bikes safe and secure, and has a charging facility.
All bike owners need is a cellphone and the app which controls the individual docking selected, and their charger.
The app enables riders to search for Locky Docks throughout New Zealand.
Ron says growing numbers of e-bikers and cyclists are visiting Artisan thanks to the cycleway that makes it possible to ride from Christchurch to Rangiora.
They were parking their bikes up against the building so they could keep an eye on them while they stopped for refreshments. Now they can dock them and charge them while they stroll around Rangiora and do some shopping.
“It is a community service for our business and Rangiora,” Ron says.
“They (cyclists) are not burning petrol and it's healthy.”
