Do you look after your stock, pasture and crops better than yourself?

Dr Tom Mulholland, who has 30 years of experience in emergency medicine and preventative health, will be at the Hawarden A&P Show on Saturday, March 21, with his retro Chevy ambulance ready to provide check-ups.

He will also be giving a free talk at the Waikari Hall on March 19, at 7pm.

He will be on hand in his ambulance to give free blood pressure checks and chat to all-comers about their health, and that of their family.

Dr Tom has been touring rural New Zealand for the past five years in his ambulance.

He has some stories to tell that will improve and may even save some lives.

‘‘You are the most important asset on the farm, so put the effort in, so that you are around when your family and farm need you,’’ he says.

Dr Tom has been an ambassador for Farmstrong and is on a nationwide Walk the Talk tour with PGG Wrightson on a mission to get 200,000 people to measure, monitor and manage their own physical, mental and social health.

He founded the health risk assessment tool KYND, which is an app being used by the forestry industry, central and local government, and dozens of corporate clients to measure, monitor and manage the health risks of employees.

The KYND wellness app can be downloaded for free using the code N8PGGFF, courtesy of PGG Wrightson, to get a check-up from the neck up.

He started his career as a forester trainee. He gained a 1st Class Honours degree in molecular genetics before attending Otago Medical School. He moved to Taranaki to begin his clinical career.

For the last 13 years he has been an emergency department doctor at Auckland City Hospital. When not travelling, he lives on his boat in Auckland.

He has been a professional speaker for the last 20 years, trying to keep people out of hospital.

For the last five years he has toured New Zealand in his retro Chevy V8 ambulance and circumnavigated the country in his 40-foot catamaran, trying to be the ambulance at the top of the cliff.

He has been an honorary lecturer in psychological medicine at the University of Auckland, written two international best-selling books on healthy thinking, and has trained thousands of people how to manage their emotions through keynote presentations, e-learning and workshops.

Dr Tom is an experienced adventurer, surfer, snowboarder, diver and pilot, who has his own expedition company.

He received the New Zealand Defence Force’s special services medal for his work in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, has worked as a ship’s doctor in the polar regions and run medical clinics in remote islands in the Pacific.

He has worked extensively in hospitals and as a rural GP in New Zealand, including the Chatham Islands.

He has been the doctor for the Taranaki, East Coast and Fijian rugby teams, and survived a tsunami in Java in 1994.

He has hosted his own daily television show on TV2, a weekly radio show on Radio Live and has written weekly for Stuff and the Sunday Star-Times on wellness and risk.

Dr Tom is a passionate parent and has served on school boards, the Taranaki District Health Board, and has won awards in business and leadership.
