One person was trapped after a crash involving a truck and a van that closed a section of State Highway 73 near Christchurch for several hours on Friday morning.
Police were called to the crash at the intersection of West Coast Rd and Kirk Rd in Templeton about 7.15am.
Fire and Emergency NZ said crews from Wigram and Rolleston responded to a crash.
“On arrival, we confirmed one person trapped in the van and extricated them with cutting gear,” he said.
The person was seriously injured.
Hato Hone St John assessed the patient at the scene before transporting them to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance.
SH73/West Coast Rd reopened between Chattertons Rd and Old West Coast Rd about 10.30am.
