Construction is now under way on Rolleston's second Woolworths supermarket.

Woolworths Faringdon on Goulds Rd is expected to be completed by mid-2027.

Woolworths director of property Matthew Grainger said the store will provide more convenience for shoppers in the Faringdon and Arbor Green subdivisions.

"We think residents on the southern side of Rolleston will love the choice and convenience the new Woolworths Faringdon store will bring them, and we know there is a lot of anticipation already,” Grainger said.

There will also be space for four retail stores next to the supermarket.

"This is a really significant project for Woolworths as we are developing more than just a freestanding store.

"This is a retail centre with potential to have a real impact on the Faringdon neighbourhood."

The new supermarket will include an online delivery hub and an eight-bay direct-to-boot facility.

The centre will have up to four complementary retail tenancies to meet the needs of the community.

Rolleston currently has a Woolworths in Rolleston Square, a New World on Tennyson St and a Pak’nSave on Levi Rd.

In October last year, the South Island’s largest supermarket, Rolleston Pak'nSave, opened in the town.
